The minutes of the Annual General Meeting broadly outline the society's recent activities so I will not attempt to enlarge upon them except to say that a further submission has been made to the local Ombudsman regarding the Borough Council's handling of the Pembrey Saltings development proposal. We must await his findings, but we can be encouraged by the fact that it is not only our society that find the attitude of the Borough's planners somewhat less than helpful. The Llanelli Star's editorial of 11th February listed more than six bodies which have severely criticised the Borough Council in recent months, among them Dyfed County Council, both Dinefwr and Carmarthen District Councils and several Community Councils. The galling thing is that the law, as it stands is inadequate to force Llanelli Borough into meaningful consultation on planning matters.

1984 has got off to a bad start with the shooting of the Crane at Kidwelly marsh (widely reported in the press). Let us hope that Llanelli Borough Council do not perpetuate this trend by continuing on their intended path of devastation at Pembrey saltmarsh.

Elsewhere in the newsletter I printed the programme of meetings until the autumn. Activities are as always many and varied and, of course, you are invited to attend as many or as few as you wish. The society cannot, however, provide this service without finance. May I, therefore, remind members who have yet to renew their subscriptions to do so as soon as possible.
