(based on RSPB Press Notice, 2 August 1993)

Readers may be interested to learn that over a hundred pairs of kites nested in Wales during 1993, for the first time in well over a century. though the number of breeding pairs increased this year, bad weather in late spring reduced the productivity with only 79 young leaving the nest, compared with 93 young from 79 pairs in 1992. Only one nest was lost to egg thieves in 1993.

Additionally, Red Kites bred successfully in England and Scotland for the second consecutive year, following the experimental re-introduction of young birds from Spain and Sweden which have been released at secret locations. No less than 21 young kites were raised at the English and Scottish localities.
