The pair of Peregrines was seen from time to time at Cwm Capel again in 2004, but in contrast to our 2003 observations, one young bird was seen on a ledge in mid-June. This young Peregrine must have flown sometime during the first week of July  [it was very much in evidence over Pwll in late summer – Ed.].

Two pairs of Great Crested Grebe produced young on the Ashpits Pond this year.  The first pair raised three young as observed on 2nd June, and by 11th one chick remained with one adult and two with the second, but with one chick persecuting the other.  On 20th June a second pair was seen with one chick at the other end of the pond, whilst one of the original pair was still with one larger chick.

An adult Grey Partridge with two young, not yet flying, were seen crossing the track (Clive Davies Road) on Pembrey saltings near the new bird hide. We followed this family into the thick grass tussocks. When the adult flew noisily away, Diana had a good view of the chicks hiding in the grass.
