Two Peregrines were seen at one of the quarries at Cwm Capel in April and a single bird seen quite often at other times but there were apparently no young this year.

Two Great Crested Grebe chicks were at the Ashpits Pond in June but one persecuted the other mercilessly until only one remained. In the sea off Cefn Padrig at low tide, 8 Great Crested Grebes were seen on several occasions in September.  On October 19th, two Grey Seals, Gannets and two Sandwich Terns were fishing off Cefn Sidan and on November 10th, a Guillemot in winter plumage was seen feeding very close inshore between Burry Port Harbour and Cefn Padrig. The sea was very calm allowing splendid views.

Sand Martins again nested at Cefn Padrig.  Three Kingfishers were seen at one of the ponds near '‘The Wave', near Cefn Padrig, and single birds were seen from time to time at the other Ashpit ponds.  On July 23rd a Barn Owl was seen flying across the playing fields at Burry Port at dusk.  Green Woodpecker at the Ashpits SSSI were often heard and sometimes seen.
