Llanelli Naturalists Newsletter - June 1984

In March, the County Ornithological Recorder, Mr. D.H.V. Roberts, convened a meeting that led to the establishment of a Committee for Ornithological Research, with the aims of producing, an Annual Bird Report (to be published by the W.W.N.T. on the lines of that already produced for Pembrokeshire).    Continued support will be to the 5-yearly 'Dyfed Bird Report’.

Work will proceed to supplement the great deal of valuable work done and collected by Dilwyn Roberts for an eventual 'Carmarthenshire Avifauna', which hopefully, in addition to detailed notes on the status of the individual species encountered, will include data on ringing recoveries, the bird's habitats, estuary birds and a gazetteer of good ornithological sites.

The 1982 Annual Report has already gone for publication and work on the 1983 Report is already well advanced. Records are needed, therefore, not only on rare or scarce birds, but observations on change of status, arrival and departure dates; all records will be appreciated for 1984.

D.H.V. Roberts was elected as Chairman, E.J. Smith as Vice-Chairman, I.K. Morgan as Honorary Secretary and other Llanelli Naturalists members on the Committee are Gavin Hall, Tony Jenkins, Clive Jones, David Poulter, Harri Williams, and Michael Williams. The rest of the committee comprise representatives of various sections of the W.W.N.T, Gower Ornithological Society, Cymdeithas Edward Llwyd and the R.S.P.B.
