Llanelli Naturalists Newsletter - March 1984

That gull-watchers Welsh Mecca - Blackpill near Mumbles is to be made into an S.S.S.I. It was at Blackpill that the first British Ring-billed Gull was noted in 1973 by R.A. Hume, subsequently Ring-billed Gulls have been seen many times, both at Blackpill and elsewhere in Britain. (They originate in North America). Some of us possibly saw one at Burry Port last September but they are often difficult to separate from Common Gulls - which sometimes have ringed bills! Ring-billed, Mediterranean, Glaucous and Iceland Gulls have been present at Blackpill this winter.
