I had the good luck to see four of these tiny deer in Dinefwr Castle Woods, Llandeilo in spring 2008. I was walking my dog at dusk along the path that leads from the castle through the chestnut woods down to Newton House. They were below and to the right of the path and took fright at once disappearing noiselessly into the deeper cover. I am certain of the observation because I have seen them twice before, once at dusk in a chine (the local name for a ravine) leading down to the sea near Boggle Hole Hostel in Northumberland and also by moonlight in Scotland when I was 'solo camping' in a woodland glade. At Dinefwr they took fright at once and disappeared amongst the trees like wraiths. I have reported the sighting to the County Mammal Recorder, Neil Matthew.
